The Bright Day Chronicles
Genies, known as Jinn (male) and Juno (female) amongst their kind, are said to have come into being with the first act of creation. Their own stories call them “the first people”, claiming that their suffering at the hands of the Elder Evils, specifically Yomagn’tho, was the start of the war between them and the Elder Gods.
Early in their history, before mortals were created, many genies of all races were enslaved by Iblīs, one of their own, and it was he who created the bindings of the manacles and the lamp. When the genies sought to free themselves, the tyrant created the get of Iblis to destroy his wayward slaves. This led to the first and only alliance between the many and varied beings of Geniekind and a war of genocide against Iblis. Iblis fled into Badiatealgim, and has remained so in the ages since. The struggle to obtain and keep their freedom was the only time the warring genie races ever joined forces against a common foe.
Unlike most outsiders, Genies can be good, evil, or neutrally benevolent and hence have free will. However, those Genie whose actions are evil eventually become Efretti, and are then (typically) are unable to change their nature. When mortals are born, Genie are assigned to them, and they then attend to that mortal from cradle to grave, governing their fortunes and determining their character, while also wishing them to enjoy in life’s pleasures. While this is typically done from afar, Genie sometimes find it necessary to intervene directly; thus, all Genie have the capacity to become invisible. Genie are not typically assigned to one mortal, and have multiple beings whom they look after. Genie gain their power from fulfilling the wishes of their assigned mortals, and bad luck in brought to a mortal when their wishes conflict with their Genies moral attitude. It is said that a satisfied Genie is one whose mortal wishes to indulge in all of life’s pleasures.
Genie inhabit an unseen world called Djinnestan, another universe beyond the known universe, whose nature and essence have found themselves attached to Poe, likely saving them from destruction. Djinnestan is known as the Realm of Delight, and the capital of this incredible realm is Schadou Kiam, The City of Jewels. To either side of the realm are two Deserts, Badiat Coldare, the Desert of Monsters, and Badiatealgim, the Desert of Demons. Anyone exiled from the realm by one of its many masters is left to fend for themselves in these harsh wastelands.
